Luxury home with large windows


A magnificent lateral first floor apartment with a 25-m eight window frontage overlooking Albemarle Street in London's Mayfair area has been launched by Wetherell, a specialist in Mayfair properties.

The new three-bedroom residence provides 3,588 sq ft (333.33 sq m) of living space and the largest room dimensions and highest ceilings (3.5 m) of any new apartment in London’s West End, it says.

The recently completed and dressed first floor apartment is located in The Mellier at 26 Albemarle Street in the fashionable ‘Artisan Quarter’ of Mayfair.

The Mellier by developer Glebe consists of the transformation of a magnificent Beaux-Arts building, originally the European headquarters of Buick motorcars, into a scheme of five luxury residences complete with private lift lobby and concierge.

Originally built in 1905 the grand Edwardian building was until the 1970s a luxury motorcar showroom. During the 1920s to 1950s it was the European headquarters of Buick motorcars.

With its vast floorplates, high ceiling and tall windows the first floor of the building is where the Buick limousines were showcased to visitors. It has now been converted by Eric Parry Architects and interior design firm Studio Mackereth into Mayfair’s most outstanding new residence providing two living rooms, a library, family kitchen and three VIP bedroom suites, each with ensuite bathrooms.

The apartment opens directly into the main drawing room which is 47 ft (14.3 m) by 25.6 ft (7.7 m) in size, with five tall windows which allow natural light to cascade into the living space. At the southern end of the drawing room is a library with floor to ceiling bookcases, a comfortable reading nook and doors opening onto an ornamental balcony.

The space is designed with a clever sliding wall which can reveal the fully equipped kitchen and be kept open for theatrical cooking and entertaining, or close for more discreet food preparation. From the drawing room, full height pocket doors lead into the adjoining family room which has a three window frontage, is 24.9 ft (7.5 m) by 19.6 ft (5.9 m) in size and opens onto an ornamental balcony.

The interiors are finished to an exacting specification. Features include bespoke full height doors finished in white lacquer, American black walnut and Ivory; handcrafted Oak parquet flooring to principal rooms and feature crackled lacquer finishes to key living spaces and wardrobes. The fully fitted Bulthaup kitchen has quartz stone worktops and Miele/Gaggenau appliances. The bathrooms have LED light features and bespoke vanity units and suites.

The lighting scheme in the apartment is highly advanced with a combination of mood lighting and ceiling directional lights with powerful beams able to illuminate artwork, sculptures and important furniture pieces. This is complete with state-of-the-art KNX comfort cooling, home automation, entertainment and security systems.

The spacious ground floor foyer has tall arched windows, 24-hour concierge and is dressed like the entrance to a luxury home with artwork and bespoke furniture pieces. There is lift and stairwell access, with a private lift lobby to each floor.
