Seiko watch designer Nobuhiro Kosugi has been bestowed with a Japanese medal of honour for his achievements.
Awarded by the Japanese government, the ‘Medal with a Yellow Ribbon' is given to individuals who, through their diligence and perseverance in their professional activities, become public role models.
Kosugi, who has been involved in watch design and development for four decades, has a long list of career achievements.
He was instrumental in designing the three Seiko watches that were awarded by Good Design Award, and was also in charge of designing the Grand Seiko SBGJ005, which won the Petite Aiguille prize at the 2014 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.
Kosugi is renowned for designing luxury watches which are imbued with the distinctive style that evokes the Japanese sense of beauty. These design marvels are made together with Seiko’s master craftsmen Satoshi Hiraga, Kiyoshi Terui, and other outstanding Japanese craftsmen such as the Urushi lacquer and enamel artists.
A recent example of Kosugi’s design capability is the innovative Fugaku Tourbillon Limited Edition, which showcases the seamless integration of the tourbillon, metal engraving, and lacquer work.
Inspired by the ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ painting, and unveiled at Baselworld earlier this year, the timepiece is a splendid symbol of Kosugi’s immense talent and design capabilities.
Seikos’ first ever tourbillon and limited to just eight pieces, the Fugaku Tourbillon Limited Edition costs around $460,000.
