Lürssen Yachts of Germany has delivered the world’s biggest superyacht in terms of space, describing it as “one of the most complex and challenging yachts that has ever been built, both in terms of dimension and technology”.
The superyacht Dilbar is 156 m long and boasts a gross tonnage of 15,917 tonnes, making it the largest motor yacht in the world in terms of volume.
In comparison, Azzam, the world’s longest superyacht at 180 m, is said to have a GRT of 13,136 tonnes. Azzam too was built by Lürssen and delivered in 2013.
Dilbar was delivered to its new owner last month, whom press reports say is Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, one of Arsenal FC’s main shareholders.
Here are some remarkable facts about this new superyacht:
• An indoor pool holds a stunning 180 cu m of water and is the largest pool to have been built on a yacht.
• A diesel electric power plant of 30,000 kW is the largest installed on any yacht and allows her to operate at a continuous speed of 22.5 knots.
• A total surface of 10,000 sq m has been faired and painted and more than 1,100 km of cabling has been fitted.
• The yacht has not one but two helipads.
"Building Dilbar was a great challenge and we are proud of this achievement, especially considering the contract time of only 52 months,” says Shipyard Managing Partner Peter Lürssen. “She truly represents another exceptional milestone in not only our history, but in yachting history as well.”
Under clear guidance and leadership of the owner, the general arrangement and exterior design was developed by Espen Oeino who has given Dilbar a timeless classical profile which is underlined by the light ivory colour of the hull and the bronze accents.
Oeino said: "We here at Espen Oeino International, feel honoured and privileged to have been part of this incredible voyage. The close co-operation with all parties involved was the catalyst for making the yacht as magnificent as she is."
Her interior design was created at Winch Design's office in London and is truly spectacular. Unique mixes of rare and striking materials give her an extraordinary look and feel.
Winch said: “Dilbar has been a big part of my life. She is truly special, culturally unique and incredibly detailed in so many ways. We are sure that her owners will enjoy every space on board”
Lürssen added: “Dilbar is a proud example of the size palette Lürssen can build and our order book currently features several yachts starting from 70 m.”
Dilbar’s price tag has not been revealed but a report in a UK newspaper put it at around half a billion dollars.
