Summer 2016
Countdown begins for annual superyacht celebration in Monaco
The 2016 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) will open its doors from September 28 to October 1, welcoming an expected 34,000 visitors from all over the world over the course of its four-day run.
Now in its 26th edition, this year’s show will cover an area of 20,000 sq m and feature 580 exhibitors and MYS partners, 120 superyachts including 40 new vessels making their world debut and a selection of luxury tenders and other accessories for water sports and leisure.
Private yacht owners, future buyers of yachts and decision-makers will tread the blue walkways of Port Hercules to board the 120 most desirable superyachts of the year or discover the latest trends in naval architecture and the technological gadgets or nautical leisure accessories of tomorrow.
The show kicks off on September 27 with the Monaco Yacht Summit which will be attended by 50 VIPs, followed by an opening gala evening for 400 guests and private clients.
There will also be the third edition of the MYS Superyacht Awards.
Today, there are 4,476 superyachts in operation, 1,099 of which are for sale, according to the 2016 annual report of Camper & Nicholsons and Wealth X. This market is sustained by a small number of clients, since there are only 200,000 super-rich people in the world, explains Gaëlle Tallarida, General Manager of the MYS.
“For more than ten years now, the yachting community has adopted the MYS as its ambassador on the world stage, a situation that earns praise but also creates new expectations,” she says. “So three years ago, the show reoriented its development strategy in order to meet and even anticipate the needs of private clients and high-level visitors, managers of large brokerage or shipyard companies, and all the sectors directly linked to yachting or complementary to this luxury industry.”
And while the Monaco show is considered a barometer of the health of the industry, it must also reflect an emotional experience, and thus the aim of the show’s organisers is to make MYS a genuine label. This ambition translates into the development of daring and innovative solutions to promote yachting to a worldwide audience, the high point of which is the show, Tallarida adds.
THE MYS EXPERIENCE
For the last three years, the MYS has participated in ‘Monaco Week in China’ in collaboration with the Monegasque Embassy in China and the show’s Asian media partner, Bluinc Media group. This event, which this year took place in Chengdu, offered a platform to the region’s lifestyle and economic press and above all to the social elite, keen to explore the universe of yachting.
Just as the members of the Superyacht Builder Association (SYBAss) did in 2014 and 2015 (for the first two editions in Shanghai and Beijing respectively), shipyards VSY and Nobiskrug helped the MYS this year to attract these new clients. While China remains a region with enormous potential for yachting, it still represents a challenge for players in this market.
The success of the show is founded not only on the quality of products exhibited at the quayside and on the water by the yachts, but also on its ability to improve its services every year.
In response to the express desire of the finest automobile manufacturers to participate in the show in recent years, a new exhibition space dedicated solely to luxury vehicles will be launched at the 2016 MYS called the Car Deck.
Several prestige automobiles will be on display and available for purchase or a test drive in the heart of the town. The Car Deck will thus supplement the exhibition space exclusive to the luxury sectors linked to yachting that already exist on the Upper Deck Lounge, the special welcome area for the show’s private and business clients that was launched in 2012.
Created as a confidential service for exhibitors in 2014, the Sapphire Experience offers a bespoke visit to the MYS exclusively for private clients interested in renting or purchasing a superyacht. Only 100 Sapphire Experiences are on offer, proposing a service of the highest quality to enable guests to enjoy the MYS experience: a customised on-line concierge service will accompany guests throughout the show to organise visits to preferred superyachts, reserve a courtesy car or a table for lunch.
Particular attention has been given to improving transport facilities so as to ensure regular trouble-free transit between the different exhibition areas that now cover the whole of the Port Hercules: the network of launches will offer direct routes between the various quays, including a special line for the crossing between the Quai de l’Hirondelle and the Quai Antoine 1er.
On land, the golf cart service will offer new stops and extended service hours to back up the networks of bus shuttles and courtesy cars that will continue to connect hotels in Monaco directly with the show. Three helicopter lines will provide services between Monaco and Nice airport or the Cannes and Saint-Tropez business terminals. A new MYS app, to be launched at the end of August, will additionally facilitate access to transport solutions and suggest the best route to the booth or yacht of interest to visitors.
Meanwhile, here's a preview of some of the yachts sailing in for the show...
-------------------------------------------
SIMPLY THE BEST
Launched three years ago, the MYS Superyacht Awards will again be presented at the 2016 MYS to a selection of superyachts exhibited by their builders as world premieres at the show. The selection criteria are simple and reflect the excellence of the industry: the yacht must be new-built in 2016 or delivered at the end of 2015, 40 m or more in length and presented exclusively by a shipyard.
A jury of journalists from Germany, the Middle East, the US, Italy and the UK will choose the winners. This year awards will be made in the following categories: interior design, exterior design, and finest new yacht at the show.
-------------------------------------------
DON’T MISS SUMMIT
The 2016 Monaco Yachting Summit will have expert workshops devoted to specific topics, debate different aspects of superyachting today and provide practical information to owners, potential future buyers and their representatives.
Organised in collaboration with the Yacht Investor Media Group and in association with Global Partnership Family Office, the summit seeks to promote the yachting industry to potential clients.
-------------------------------------------
Galactica Super Nova, Heesen Yachts
Design: Espen Oeino/Heesen/Sinot
At 70 metres, Galactica Super Nova is the largest Heesen built to date. This aluminium fast displacement yacht achieves a remarkable top speed of 30 knots. With a sleek, elegant profile by Espen Øino, Galactica Super Nova is the perfect combination of speed, space and style.
Amore Mio, Heesen Yachts
Design: Omega, Heesen, Cristiano Gatto
The solidity and integrity of the semi-displacement, aluminium hull design means the 45-m Amore Mio is capable of both rapid acceleration and a very smooth ride – so guests arrive stirred, but never shaken. With a range of 2,750 nm at 12 knots, she can cross the Mediterranean with ease or cruise the entire length of the Caribbean from St Barths to Grenada, stopping off at as many islands as one chooses on just one tank of fuel. Her long, angular exterior lines soar like a javelin from the knuckle bow through to the transom. Amore Mio is a performance yacht that delivers equal parts power and sophistication, setting her apart from every other sportster on the market.
Unicorn, Baglietto
Design: F Paszkowski Design, Baglietto
This 54-m aluminium and steel displacement yacht was built using Baglietto’s extensively tested platform for 53 m yachts. Unicorn’s exterior and interior lines have been designed by Francesco Paszkowsi in cooperation with the architect Margherita Casprini. The owner plays a key role on the interior design which is particularly striking, thanks to the impressive contrast between the light teak and ceiling and the black furniture.
M60 S, Mondomarine
Design: Luca Dini Design
The new Mondomarine 60 m is a vessel with lines equally sportive and elegant, with both hull and superstructure all in aluminium and designed to reach a speed of over 21 knots and with a full beam of 10.50 m. This feature turns her to be among the few ones on the panorama of yachts with such a high level of speed and comfort, similar to a sporty Granturismo. The merge of Mondomarine philosophy and the new vision of the designer Luca Dini combined to an accurate choice of material, care for details and a new project approach have originated a new series of fast boats suitable for those owners in search of high performance without compromising comfort, internal space and excellent quality.
Sybaris, Perini Navi
Design: P H Design
Sybaris represents another milestone in the evolution of the Perini Navi brand. The 70-m ketch was built to the same uncompromising levels of quality, comfort and safety that characterise all its yachts, but her design and engineering have been taken to the next level. This has been achieved in part because of her greater length and volume, but also thanks to the Perini Navi Group’s ongoing research into new technical solutions and her experienced owner’s insistence on excellence from the very beginning.
M50, Mondomarine
Design: Hot Lab Yacht & Design
The M50, with its aluminium hull and superstructure, features three decks and a spacious sundeck. The innovative look of this project follows Mondomarine’s traditional styling and heritage adding innovative design solutions that gives to the yacht’s profile a flowing and appealing line enriched by the extraordinary colour of the hull chosen by the owner.
Baglietto 46m Fast, Baglietto
Design: F Paszkowski
The new 46 m Fast stands out for its streamlined bow and rakish lines expressing a strong personality, but can also boast an imposing stern with hawses. The trapezium-shaped windows in the hull alternate with rectangular ones arranged on two different levels, enhancing the slender shape of the hull and giving a more contemporary touch to the yacht’s highly charming outer profile. Another new element characterising the exterior lines is the compact shape of the superstructure, which is not too high to enhance aerodynamic penetration.
Vanish, Feadship
Design: Eidsgaard Design & Feadship
Highlights on this latest scion of the Feadship fleet include a free-standing staircase flanked by a glass wall over three decks, an ingenious extendable balcony for the owner’s stateroom and a highly innovative transom design. Like every Feadship, the 70-m Vanish reflects the wishes and requirements of her owners to an exceptional degree. On this particular build, Feadship has teamed up with Eidsgaard Design on a yacht which is a lifestyle statement par excellence.
Mangusta Oceano 42, Overmarine
Design: Alberto Mancini Design
Mangusta Oceano 42 combines design, comfort and last generation technology. She is a beautiful yacht, modern and elegant, whose proportions are expressed in a blend of sharp, taut lines combined with softer sections. A careful study of light and a new concept which provides for two innovative areas have been developed on-board: on the bow deck, the external area features two separate sunbathing areas which plunge into a swimming-pool with a continuous waterfall. Astern, the hatch stretches out over the sea creating a platform for the beach area. The interiors have been designed in order to accommodate up to 12 guests as well as seven crew members. Everything converses with the exterior here: the salon features huge windows through which natural light enters and in other areas the glazing brings light to the various different environments.
Ouranos, Admiral – The Italian Sea Group
Design: Unielle Design (exterior), Gian Marco Campanino & Admiral Centro Stile (interior)
The Admiral C Force 50 Ouranos is just the perfect balance between tradition and innovation, between classic and marine lines, and modern and advanced design, not to talk about the high specifications she has been built to.
The yacht features a full displacement hull, with steel and aluminium construction, while delivering a maximum speed of 17 knots, which makes her one of the fastest displacement yachts of this size.
Quinta Essentia, Admiral – The Italian Sea Group
Design: Vripack (exterior), Michela Reverberi (interior)
The 55-m custom motor yacht Quinta Essentia has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests overnight in six cabins, comprising a master suite. She is also capable of carrying up to 13 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Quinta Essentia features a full displacement aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks.
This luxury yacht is also fitted with ‘zero speed stabilizers’ which work at anchor, increasing on-board comfort when the yacht is stationary, particularly in rough waters.
Quinta Essentia is capable of a top speed of 17 knots and has a maximum range of 3,500 nautical miles at 15 knots.
Moka, Sanlorenzo
Design: Francesco Paszkowski (exterior), Sanlorenzo (interior)
The three features that take the 460Exp Moka beyond the usual yachting limits are onboard spaciousness, safety, and self-containment. The 460Exp is designed to give her owner a real taste of adventure: the exploration of distant and exotic destinations, with the safety and comfort associated with a superyacht, combining the experience, craftsmanship, and innovation for which Sanlorenzo is famous.
