Winter 2023
A special kind of emotional relationship exists between humans and cars and with the BMW i Vision Dee, the company is reinventing this relationship and bringing it into the digital age.
BMW premiered its new visionvehicle at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023, the world’s biggest tech trade fair in Las Vegas, US.
The vision vehicle brings virtual worlds into the car and opens up new levels of interaction. As soon as you settle in the driver’s seat, you enter a new world, says BMW.
Described as a vehicle for all senses that offers a new dimension of driving pleasure, the BMW i Vision Dee adapts to the driver’s habits, suggests destinations to navigate to, or entertainment programmes and provides information, news, calendar entries or social media posts. In this way, the vision vehicle becomes a companion for people beyond the streets and into the virtual world.
The future of the BMW Group is electric, circular and digital, the company says and the BMW i Vision Dee is dedicated to the “digital” aspect of this trio and shows a preview of the digital future of the group.
The standard production version of this will be used in the models of the Neue Klasse from 2025 onwards.
Dee stands for Digital Emotional Experience: three words with profound meaning for the BMW Group.
The BMW i Vision Dee is not only always tailored to the driver’s needs; it also anticipates what they want from previous journeys. The BMW i Vision Dee does this by projecting information across the entire width of the windscreen in an evolution of the head-up display – further blurring the line between reality and virtual world.
The vision vehicle brings virtual worlds into the car through the BMW Mixed Reality Slider and the advanced BMW Head-Up-Display.
The BMW Mixed Reality Slider displays content in five different levels – ranging from analogue, to driving-related information, to the contents of the communications system, to augmented-reality projection, right up to entry into virtual worlds.
Colour-change technology
The BMW Group has also refined its use of colour-change technology. Having unveiled the BMW iX Flow Featuring E Ink, with the ability to change from black to white, at the last CES, BMW i Vision Dee can now curate its exterior in up to 32 colours.
