Boeing Business Jets (BBJ) orders for the BBJ Max have risen to 12, following the sale of two BBJ Max 8 airplanes.
The two BBJ Max 8s were ordered by two separate customers, one based in North America and the other in Asia, and the sales were revealed at the 2016 Farnborough International Air Show earlier this month.
“The BBJ Max and its unmatched capability and comfort continues to be a very successful airplane for us and we are just getting started,” said Boeing Business Jets President David Longridge. “The BBJ Max gives our customers incredible flexibility with increased range, cabin space and baggage capacity.”
BBJ now has 12 BBJ Max jets on order; 11 for the BBJ Max 8 and one for the BBJ Max 9.
Boeing also launched the BBJ Max 7 at the show, to compete in the ultra-long-range market.
The VIP jet is a longer-range version of the Max 7 introduced in 2012 and earmarked for service entry in 2017.
“We saw what Gulfstream has done with the G650 and the ER variant, and we knew that we could offer a BBJ with a similar range to compete in that segment,” says Longridge, in reference to the ultra-long-range business jet’s 7,000 nm (13,000 km) and 7,500 nm ranges. “This aircraft has been a huge success.”
“In the early 1990s Boeing was asked if they could offer a VIP aircraft with the 6,000 nm range of the GV. We responded with the BBJ. Today we are responding to calls from customers looking to fly even further in an airliner-size aircraft,”
Green deliveries will commence in 2022, four years after the first BBJ Max 8, and two years after the first BBJ Max 9. Boeing launched these aircraft in 2014 and 2015 respectively. “We have already sold 12 BBJ Max models, but expect the -7 version to be the most popular,” he added.
