Dutch manufacturer U-Boat Worx has unveiled a compact high-performance submersible that is said to offer the agility of a sports car, and comes with a price tag to match.
Designed to accommodate two people, the HP Sport Sub 2 comes ready to fit on board any superyacht and can even be towed behind a car.
Founder and Chairman Bert Houtman says the remarkable submersible is suitable for all yachts from 30 m and upwards.
“The luxury submersible has a 100 m (330 feet) depth-rating and weighs only 2,200 kg. Add to that its ultra-low height of 136 cm (53 inches) and superb performance, and in the HP Sport Sub 2 you have easily the best choice among personal sports submersibles,” he says.
“The design is attractive, but above all, safe and functional,” Houtman continues. “We've adopted a very different look compared to traditional submersibles, but without compromising safety and ease of use - the ability to easily board the craft at the surface, for example.
“The result is a modern and streamlined submersible with fantastic performance. Whether at the surface or underwater, its speed and manoeuvrability are exceptional. Although this ‘subsea Ferrari’ was principally designed to maximise the excitement of diving, U-Boat Worx has created a full-fledged submersible.”
This little toy will set you back by a million euros ($1.25 million) but you will have to wait in line as the first production models are only due in Autumn 2015.
