Alexander Norén of Sweden won the 2016 Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana, making it the second time that he has won the tournament, with his previous victory coming in 2009.
Surrounded by remarkable views of the Swiss Alps, Norén played through the tournament's final day on Sunday and, after a playoff against Scott Hend of Australia, took home the winner’s check, trophy, red championship jacket and an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 M Master Chronometer.
This new watch features an 18-karat Sedna gold case, blue ceramic dial and blue ceramic bezel with an Omega Ceragold diving scale. It comes presented on a blue leather strap with rubber lining and is driven by an impressive Master Chronometer calibre.
The timepiece is the perfect match for the precision and creativity that Norén displayed on the course, says the Swiss brand.
The Omega European Masters is the oldest golf tournament in Europe. This is, in fact, the 70th year that the tournament has been played in Crans-Montana.
Not only is it renowned for its Swiss heritage, but also for the majestic mountain scenery that is a delight for both players and spectators.
Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of Omega, who was amongst the spectators, said: "We have just witnessed the return of golf to the Olympic Games after more than a century. It is a great time for the sport and to go from the coastline of Rio to the mountains of Switzerland shows how global the game is becoming. I feel very proud to be here sharing this special Omega event with so many great players. Congratulations to Alexander, it was a thoroughly deserved victory.”
First played in 1923, this competition has been title sponsored by Omega since 2001. Played in Switzerland, the home of Omega’s watchmaking, it is a particularly momentous occasion not only for the brand, but also for European sport, sasy Omega, adding that it wishes every player great success for the rest of the season.
