Oceanco dazzles visitors at Monaco with futuristic superyachts
Dutch builder Oceanco showed off stunning new concepts that break new ground in the design and construction of superyachts at the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show, which ran from September 28 to October 1 in Port Hercules.
Spectacular scale models were put on display for visitors to admire, including the recently unveiled Moonstone. This innovative yacht bears an exterior design of Van Geest Design with unique and cutting-edge lighting systems by Temeloy Advanced Lighting Design.
Additionally, Oceanco featured three more scale models of 90-m-plus projects: the Yasmin designed by Espen Oeino and the Oceanco-designed E-Motion, both 90 m; as well as the 91.5-m Spirit designed by Winch Design.
E-MOTION
The new E-Motion – with the yard designation DP046 – is a chic yet sporty 90 m/295.3 ft superyacht. Her straight-edge bow and low superstructure lend a long-limbed yet energetic profile.
E-Motion’s 6.5-m/21.3-ft-long infinity pool is surrounded by comfortable sunbeds and slinky sofas creating the perfect setting for sybaritic pleasure.
The exterior owner’s deck offers a relaxed lounge area that overlooks the pool. The tinted glass bulwark offers protection from the wind as well as a high level of privacy without obscuring the panoramic view.
The 120-sq-m owner’s suite located aft of the upper deck boasts panoramic views aft and a private terrace with whirlpool, sunbeds and seating area. The master bedroom also has en-suite his and hers bathrooms with walk-in wardrobes.
Six spacious double guest cabins – four of which can convert into two large VIP suites – are separated from the master suite by the upper lobby. Dual skylights flood the guest cabins on upper deck with natural light. A comfortable exterior seating area is available on the forward part of this deck should guests want to enjoy privacy and panoramic views.
On the main deck are a vast 250-sq-m salon aft and a spacious open cinema, which can be enclosed by sliding doors. Next to the cinema is the main entrance/lobby followed by an impressive dining room with seating for 14 and ample china storage to accommodate numerous place settings. The folding bulwarks on each side of the dining room can open up for enhanced views on the exterior.
An impressive 150-sq-m wellness beach club on the lower deck offers guests a comprehensive club atmosphere including a sauna, gym, yoga space, pool, massage room, health bar, beauty salon with dressing area, lounge, watersports room with diving equipment and drying cabinet – all with direct access to the sea.
Thanks to the well-integrated solar panels on the aft top roof as well as on the aft upper deck, E-Motion proves she is not only an aesthetic yacht but also an eco-friendly one.
A fully-certified helipad located on foredeck can easily accommodate an H-135 (formerly known as EC-135), which has capacity for one pilot with six to seven passengers or two pilots with five to six passengers.
As an Oceanco spokesman puts it: “E-Motion lives up to her name; she is definitely a special, lifestyle-enhancing yacht.”
MOONSTONE
Launched to great fanfare at the 2016 Dubai International Boat Show earlier this year, Moonstone was developed in association with Van Geest Design. With a distinctive faceted hull design, Moonstone aims to create a visual link between the ship, the sky and the sea – impressive to onlookers.
The 90-m-long yacht is “distinctive, innovative and artful” and the defining difference between Moonstone and all other yachts is her unique faceted hull sides.
The elegant lines and faceted hull suggest a hypnotic glamour, just as one sees in the multiple surfaces of a finely cut precious stone.
The multi-angled surface shapes of the hull sides reflect the water and play off sunlight. The unique ‘twinkle effect’ provides a visual link from Moonstone to the sky and the sea. This striking ‘facet’ motif repeats in many other areas of the yacht and is used in conjunction with special lighting effects.
Oceanco is engineering the 90-m Moonstone to be Passenger Yacht Code (PYC)-compliant and capable of accommodating considerably more than 12 guests.
The Van Geest Design team has worked on numerous illustrious projects ranging from 10 to 95 m in length, and principals Pieter van Geest and Tracey-Jayne Canavaggio have a combined 35 years of experience in the design field. For Moonstone, Van Geest Design is working closely with Temeloy to achieve extraordinary visually emotional effects throughout the yacht.
Moonstone has several key lighting features. These include:
• Overhead panels: A backlit surface linked to fish-eye cameras can capture the magic of a night sky, a sunset or a sunrise as well as their reflection on the water.
• Hull-side facets: Custom hull panel lights triggered by 300 individually dimmable white triangles per hull side create unlimited lighting possibilities. At night, these lights generate a unique shimmering twinkling effect.
• Swimming pool and hot tub: The pool walls have dimmable lights that will create a warm welcoming glow.
• Boot stripe lighting: A horizontal line of light plays with the water line of the yacht.
The yacht has been designed and engineered on the Oceanco 90-m platform taking full advantage of its efficient technical layout. The general arrangement was designed to give flexibility, including an entire owner’s deck, a generous gym and spa area, a cinema and a touch-and-go helicopter pad.
The hull light panels have been designed to be self-sufficient with the use of 70-sq-m standard solar panels on top of the superstructure.
There is a sky deck lounge with 360-degree panoramic views. Custom exterior deck furniture is designed to be modular, lightweight, clean, chic, low maintenance and user friendly – allowing flexibility in the deck layout – in accordance with the lifestyle on board.
Unfolding navigation wings are designed to increase visibility – these stations spread out laterally like wings suspended in mid-air. Side platforms forward give access to water toys and rescue tenders. Aft side platforms allow access to two main guest tenders and an outdoor lounge play area.
