Baume & Mercier, a Swiss fine watchmaking company, has launched its 2016 Clifton Perpetual Calendar watch with a moon phase indicator in the Middle East at the Dubai Watch Week (DWW), currently under way in the UAE.
The new elegant, comfortable watch showcases the expertise of Baume & Mercier in high complications and fine watchmaking.
The manufacture, established in 1830, is committed to its mission of creating timepieces of the highest quality that can withstand the test of time, said a senior executive.
Baume & Mercier, participating for the first time in DWW, is the seventh oldest luxury watch manufacture in Switzerland.
"Heritage is very important for us, but celebrating the life's special moments is more important," said Alain Zimmermann, CEO of Baume & Mercier, presenting company's collections at the DWW's Creative Hub.
"We extend the memories of one’s life, through our master timepieces," he said. The brand first introduced the Clifton collection in 2013, a master design inspired by the classic aesthetics of the golden 1950s, balancing a classic concept with modern touches.
The brand has over 800 historical pieces and this shows its power of innovation, he said.
The company doesn't produce movements but collaborates with the finest manufacturers in the industry. "Our philosophy is: 'I can't do everything by myself' and hence the collaborations. However, we undertake the product development and design, while ensuring the highest quality of the product," said Zimmermann.
The brand releases at least one high complication collection every year and tries to keep the prices affordable in the category, he said. "It's a good dream, but it's nicer if the dream reaches your wrist," he said.
The Clifton Perpetual Calendar watch is a limited edition watch with only 30 pieces available. It is priced Dh83,000 ($24,400). The 42-mm watch sports a stunning 18-karat gold case. With a self-winding movement, the watch has a 48-hour power reserve. The mechanism negotiates automatically the Gregorian calendar with its 31, 30 or 28-day months and the Leap Year.
The Dubai Watch Week runs until November 19. The event showcases the pinnacle of watchmaking achievements through exhibitions, workshops, watchmaking master classes, forums and VIP events at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and The Dubai Mall. It is organised and curated by Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, a leading luxury watch retailer in the region.
The Mastery of Time exhibition, a part of the event, will run till November 29 at The Atrium, The Dubai Mall.
