Reem Al-Shamari, a young Qatari designer, has a golden tale to tell about your eyes.
Through her Witr Jewelry brand, she takes the beauty behind your eyes and turns it into a unique creation of bespoke gold jewellery.
'Witr' means the 'unique one' in Arabic. The iris is almost like a DNA in its individuality and its complex patterns are unique,” says Al-Shameri, who launched the concept two years back. "We wanted to create something unique. It's the first such creation in the world and is patented.”
In creating the pieces of bespoke jewellery, Witr takes the customers through an innovative process of capturing an imprint of their irises. It then carves these details into precious gold to create unique pieces that are forever one of a kind.
The works speak about the customer's individuality in a way that no other piece of jewellery can, says Al-Shamari. "Witr is inspired by the beautiful details of the human iris which creates unparalleled footprints for the individual."
"Having a piece gives the owner huge personal value, it's like creating a piece of immortality," she adds.
The designer works with three kinds of gold - yellow, rose and white. If the customer wants, it can create silver pieces as well. Generally black or clear Belgian diamonds are used with gold. Prices range from $2,750 to $3,570 for regular designs.
Though the iris is the company's signature collection, the designer has introduced other lines too, such as Bint eLulu, which expresses the beauty of Qatari culture through its details and materials.
Witr currently operates through an online store.
"Business is good," she says. "Our customers mostly are high-end, who really care to add value to their jewellery."
Witr is showcasing its jewellery at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE), which runs until February 25 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.
