Porsche is reaching out to the masses and offering fans from all over the world the opportunity to drive one of its sports cars for a mere $85.
The catch? You’d have to jump on a plane to Stuttgart in Germany, unless, of course, you are already there for business or pleasure.
As part of a pilot marketing initiative titled ‘Porsche Drive’, the German luxury carmaker will hire its supercars to fans who have dreamt of driving one of these racy beasts but have been unable to afford to.
The cars will be available for hire at the Porsche Museum located next to the Porsche’s headquarters in the Zuffenhausen district of the city.
Customers can enjoy the “fascination of Porsche” just as they like, from one hour to a maximum of one week.
Booking, handover and return of the vehicles take place at the museum.
Porsche says the initiative is its way of opening itself up to a larger group of potential customers.
Fans from all over the world are “enthusiastic” about this new experience, it says, adding that “the dream of driving a Porsche once in their life will come true for many”.
“The fascination of our sports cars can be directly experienced with Porsche Drive,” says Bernhard Maier, Porsche’s Head of Sales and Marketing.
Price start at €69 ($85) an hour for the Boxster and Cayman mid-engine sports cars as well as the newest addition to the Porsche family, the Macan.
Getting behind the wheel of the iconic 911 sports car will cost a little more at €99 ($122), with the guarantee of a quickened pulse and 100 km thrown in for free.
Reservations can be made from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 am to 6 pm, during the opening hours of the museum.
On Mondays, vehicles can be returned between 7 am and 12.30 pm.
