New sale to feature fine jewels

Sotheby’s first-ever sale of fine jewels in Geneva will be held on June 1. It will be the first of a regular series of jewellery auctions to be held in Sotheby’s galleries at 2 rue François-Diday.

Alongside Sotheby’s biannual sales of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels, the new Fine Jewels sale will offer a wide range of fine quality signed jewels and decorative pieces with a wide variety of estimates.

The event will offer opportunities for collectors and newcomers alike to acquire stylish jewels from important jewellery houses at very appealing prices.

David Bennett, Chairman of Sotheby’s Switzerland and Chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division, said: “Following our record-breaking flagship sale in May, I am delighted to be launching a new sale series in Geneva. The Fine Jewels auction will present a varied and eclectic array of attractive jewels, close to 90 per cent of which come from private collections. We are very glad to be building on Sotheby’s reputation of offering advice and expertise to collectors at every level.”

The sale will include a captivating selection of jewellery creations by Michele della Valle, one of the most creative contemporary jewellery designers. Comprising 82 lots, the group of creations is a joyful and vibrant reflection of the Geneva-based Italian designer’s unique and exuberant style.

JEWELS THROUGH THE AGES

Sotheby’s jewellery auctions offer collectors the opportunity to acquire fine pieces from many periods, and the Fine Jewels sale is no exception. From the late 18th century to the present day, taking in the Art Deco movement along the way, the auction catalogue presents a wealth of periods and styles.

Recent years have seen a surge in interest in signed jewels from the world’s best-known jewellery houses, as more and more collectors gain an appreciation of the skilled craftsmanship and innovative design which made their names. The sale will present fine examples from the most important names including Cartier, Bulgari, Van Cleef and Arpels, and René Boivin.
