Selfridges of the UK has some golden ideas on what gifts to buy this festive season.
“The seasonal theme this year is story telling, the world famous London store says, adding that it is “championing gold as a symbol of the treasures often featured in fairy tales”.
As a result many of Selfridges’s gifts are embellished with metallic finishes while its extraordinary presents, the ‘uber gifts’, have been carefully edited and designed exclusively for the shop.
In fact, Selfridges claims that they are impossible to find anywhere else in the world, other than at its stores or at Selfridges.com.
The £60,000 ($94,236) party bag
The Anya Hindmarch Crisp Packet 18-carat gold clutch is a coveted bag that has been created for the first time in solid 18-carat gold. Available in yellow, white or rose gold, each bag is hallmarked and can be engraved with a personal message or name. “A wearable work of art, it represents the designer's fascination with making the everyday extraordinary,” says Selfridges. It features a gold plated chain and is made to order in Anya Hindmarchs’s workshop in Florence in a process that can take up to four months.
The £900 ($1,450) make-up kit

Premium knitwear brand Falke has created a pair of limited edition Vicuna wool socks. Vicuna is said to be the lightest, warmest and softest fabric in the world. Made from the ultra fine hair of the Peruvian Vicuna, an animal so rare that it can only be found in the Peruvian Andes, production is limited to just 10 pairs, each housed in a wooden presentation box, says Selfridges.

Luxury leather goods powerhouse Buscemi has created a golden-hued pair of luxury men’s hi-top trainers. The design features three shades of dazzling metallic leather and the designers iconic chrome plated hardware and three piece mechanical closure and lock. Handcrafted in Civitanova, Italy , the sole features heat treated tonal paint to reduce wear and is exactly 110 mm in height.
The £1,000 ($1,570) toaster
Selfridges launched the world’s first ever 24-carat gold toaster. The four-slice breakfast essential is a deluxe version of Dulait’s 70-year-old classic design and features 168 components hand-assembled in the UK by one person, who’s name is presented on the base.
The £30,000 ($47,122) toy car
