Vacheron Constantin’s has extended its Historiques line with a new watch that harks back to the Roaring Twenties and is ideal for “dandies and chic female urbanites”.
The Historiques American 1921 epitomises the boldness of the era and the sophistication of a Vacheron Constantin creation and with even more stylish allure.
For almost 20 years, the Historiques collection has been giving a new lease on life to the icons of Vacheron Constantin’s technical and aesthetic heritage. This range, composed of legendary watches revisited with a contemporary twist, is produced in modest quantities.
The original creation is an avant-garde cushion-shaped watch which stands out with its diagonal display and its off-centred crown. Designed in the Roaring Twenties for the American market and accordingly named the American 1921, this fabled model now offered for the first time in a smaller 36.5 mm size.
The watch was originally created for an American client with a passion for cars, and allowed him to read the time while keeping one’s hands on the steering wheel, or during a speech without having to twist the wrist.
This distinctive display was achieved by a 45-degree counter-clockwise rotation of the movement, thereby naturally displacing the crown to between 1 and 2 o’clock, and the small seconds display to between 4 and 5 o’clock.
The creative boldness of this composition is offset by the understated elegance of the finely grained silver-toned dial with its black painted Arabic numerals and minute track, slender open-tipped hands in black oxidised 18-karat gold, and a baton-shaped hand on the seconds counter.
Loyal to the original, the Historiques American 1921 – 36.5 mm watch comes in a cushion-shaped case in pink gold.
Fitted with a lightly domed sapphire crystal, Historiques American 1921 houses the Vacheron Constantin 4400 AS manual-winding caliber, driving hours, minutes and small seconds indications while ensuring a comfortable 65-hour power reserve.
The transparent caseback reveals the hand-crafted finishing of the movement. Setting the perfect final touch, the hand-stitched dark brown alligator leather strap with large square scales is fitted with a pin buckle shaped like a half Maltese cross, the historical emblem of the maison.
The watch will be also delivered with a second red alligator shiny leather strap to match a feminine style.
