Van Gogh Alive – The Experience, an acclaimed multi-media art exhibition, has opened in Abu Dhabi, UAE, providing a unique multi-sensory experience to visitors.
The exhibition is visiting the UAE for a three-month stay. It is being hosted at the Abu Dhabi National Theatre from January 14 to February 26 before moving on to Dubai where it will be on show at Dubai Design District from March 11 to April 23.
Held under the patronage of the Minister of Culture & Knowledge Development, the exhibition is being brought to the UAE by Grande Exhibitions and local event company 6IX Degrees Entertainment.
Van Gogh Alive combines a specially chosen score of classical music with over 3,000 images. Some of the artist’s most famous paintings as well as other inspirational images all displayed on the walls, floor and ceiling of the exhibition space using 40 high-definition projectors.
Visitors are introduced to a unique symphony of light, colour and sound as famous artworks are shown in their entirety, broken down into highlighted sections or magnified on a huge scale.
The carefully selected soundtrack invites art lovers to immerse themselves in the wonderful detail and vivid colours of Van Gogh’s paintings, uncovering the subtle meanings and ideas behind the artist’s most famous masterpieces.
Visiting Abu Dhabi and Dubai for two separate six-week exhibitions, Van Gogh Alive – The Experience promises to be one of the cultural highlights of the year.
Born on March 30, 1853, Vincent Willem Van Gogh is one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of western art. He created more than 2,000 works of art, including 860 oil paintings, before his death on July 29, 1890.
While Van Gogh’s work has been on display in museums and art galleries around the world for more than 100 years they have never been shown in this manner.
Van Gogh Alive is more than just an exhibition of the Dutch Post-Impressionist painter’s work. It is a full-sensory, multi-media experience that is a world away from the traditional, often silent and sometimes unnerving, gallery shows.
Visitors will feel as though they are immersed in Van Gogh’s art, as waves of images and sound wash over them and fill the exhibition space, allowing the show to be enjoyed while you walk through the space or simply by standing still and taking in the surroundings.
This new style of sensory exhibition not only appeals to adult art lovers, it also makes a trip to the gallery a new, different and exciting prospect for youngsters who can playfully interact with the paintings and pictures on display.
Tickets priced Dh70 (adults) and Dh65 (children up to 16 years) can be purchased through Platinum List, Virgin Megastore and Dubai Calendar app. - TradeArabia News Service
