Winter 2018
A full-sensory, multi-media experience that is a world away from the traditional, often silent, gallery shows awaits art lovers in the UAE
Art lovers are set to enjoy an immersive experience of Van Gogh’s masterpieces at a unique multi-media exhibition in Dubai, UAE.
Van Gogh Alive – The Experience showcases the Dutch Post-Impressionist artist’s most famous works during the multi-media exhibition’s three-month visit to Dubai.
Van Gogh Alive is more than just an exhibition of the Dutch Post-Impressionist painter’s work. It is a full-sensory, multi-media experience that is a world away from the traditional, often silent gallery shows.
Van Gogh Alive combines a specially chosen score of classical music with over 3,000 images. Some of the artist’s most famous paintings as well as other inspirational images will be displayed on the walls, floor and ceiling of the exhibition space using 40 high-definition projectors.
Visitors are introduced to a unique symphony of light, colour and sound as famous artworks are shown in their entirety, broken down into highlighted sections or magnified on a huge scale.
The carefully selected soundtrack invites art lovers to immerse themselves in the wonderful detail and vivid colours of Van Gogh’s paintings, uncovering the subtle meanings and ideas behind the artist’s most famous masterpieces.
While Van Gogh’s work has been on display in museums and art galleries around the world for more than 100 years, they have never been shown in this manner.
Visitors will feel as though they are immersed in Van Gogh’s art, as waves of images and sound wash over them and fill the exhibition space, allowing the show to be enjoyed while they walk through the space or simply stand still and take in the surroundings.
This new style of sensory exhibition not only appeals to adult art lovers, it also makes a trip to the gallery a new, different and exciting prospect for youngsters who can playfully interact with the paintings and pictures on display.
The experience will take place at the Dubai Design District from March 11 to April 23. This follows the showing at Abu Dhabi National Theatre from January 14 to February 26.
Held under the patronage of the Minister of Culture & Knowledge Development, the acclaimed multi-media art exhibition is being brought to the UAE by Grande Exhibitions and local event company 6IX Degrees Entertainment.
Born March 30, 1853, Vincent Willem Van Gogh is one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of western art. He created more than 2,000 works of art, including 860 oil paintings, before his death on July 29, 1890.
