The Mouawad Group has acquired the 51.38 carat Dynasty diamond, the largest and purest diamond in a collection of five stones offered for sale by Alrosa, a world leader in diamond mining.
Alrosa unearthed the 179-carat rough diamond in 2015 at the Nyurbinskaya kimberlite pipe in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
The auction took place on August 2, 2018. The total Dynasty collection sold for $10 million making it the most expensive stone sold in the miner’s history. The impressive 51.38 carat Dynasty is a traditional round brilliant-cut diamond, D colour, VVS1 clarity, which also makes it the best quality large diamond ever manufactured in Russia.
Fred and Pascal Mouawad, co-guardians of the Mouawad Group, stated: “We are very proud of this important acquisition. We will add it to our repertoire of historic diamond acquisitions. What attracted us to the Dynasty is not only its exceptional quality, but the transparency of its history and the fact it’s the largest and most valuable diamond ever sold by Alrosa. It’s a rare gem with a remarkable record.”
Over the years, Mouawad has acquired a collection of exceptional diamonds such as the 245.35 carat Jubilee Diamond, the 135.92 carat Queen of Holland diamond, the 69.42 carat Taylor Burton, and the largest cushion shaped D IF weighting 218.08 carat.
The Mouawad Group has penetrated continents across the world, while retaining its eminent position as a jeweller to royalty, high society and those that appreciate the finest standards of dazzling craftsmanship. Steeped in rich traditions and guided forward by its fourth generation, Mouawad is committed to continue its legacy for many more generations, the statement said.
Backed by more than a century of excellence in its field, Mouawad remains a family business built upon artistic excellence, superb craftsmanship, trust, and relationships. Mouawad designs, manufactures, and sells its own exclusive jewellery and timepiece collections ranging from boutique collections and haute joaillerie to magnificent bespoke masterpieces and objects of art.
Mouawad also manufactures rough diamonds as a Diamond Trading Company (DTC) Sightholder, a privilege that grants it a direct and unique access to conflict-free rough diamonds and gemstones, sourced and purchased in countries that are full participants in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme.
The Mouawad family has acquired over the years some of the largest and rarest diamonds in the world, and many of these historic gems carry Mouawad as part of their designated name. The family’s ongoing support of the global industry through research and education led to third-generation Robert Mouawad receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Gemological Institute of America and having the GIA campus named in his honour.
Guinness World Records
Mouawad has been honoured by the Guinness World Records five times, the most recent of which being for the Flower of Eternity Jewelry Coffer ― the most valuable jewellery box in the world ($3.5 million). In 2013, the Mouawad L’Incomparable Diamond Necklace was named as the most valuable necklace in the world ($55 million), featuring the world’s largest internally flawless diamond, the Incomparable Diamond (407.48 carat). In 2011 Guinness awarded Mouawad for creating the most valuable handbag in the world ― the Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Purse ($3.8 million). In 2003, the Very Sexy Fantasy Bra received a Guinness for being the most expensive bra ever made ($11 million), and in 1990 a GWR was awarded for the Mouawad Splendor ― the most expensive single pear-shaped diamond in the world at the time ($12.76 million).
With Fred Mouawad heading the Diamond Division; brothers Alain and Pascal, the Watch Division and the Retail Division, respectively, each co-guardian brings his unique business acumen and creativity to the 128-year-old brand with the mission of continuing the rich heritage of creating fine jewellery and timepiece collections.
