Swiss luxury watchmaker Chopard has launched the inherently rare, understated and refined L.U.C 1937 - Classic Rally Dubai, dedicated to Middle Eastern classic racing enthusiasts.
Chopard has created this 20-piece limited edition darkly handsome chronometer to accompany the second edition of the Classic Rally Dubai.
The only such competition of its kind in the region, this regularity rally winds its way in November between skyscrapers and desert, the ideal playground for this sophisticated high-performance, high-precision timepiece.
This 42 mm-diameter chronometer's ruthenium-toned satin-brushed dial provides a striking backdrop for the metallic black Dauphine-type hands and hour-markers. Created in honour of Chopard Classic Rally Dubai’s second edition, this special series exudes the refined taste one would expect from this indispensable companion of Emirati gentlemen drivers.
Unique in its kind within the Arabian Peninsula, the prestigious Chopard Classic Rally Dubai sees a total of 30 vehicles compete for two days across the contrasting territory of the UAE. This is a regularity rally and thus a far cry from the high speeds easily reached by the region’s many hypercars.
Inspired by a passion
This competition, reserved for classic car enthusiasts, is entirely in keeping with the Chopard’s aspirations, which partners a number of events dedicated to collector’s cars. The Maison’s Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele both collects and drives these venerable vehicles, meaning that the creation of this rally stems from an emotional and authentic bond, much like that which Chopard enjoys with the Mille Miglia and the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique.
This entire special series is exclusively available from the network of Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons boutiques, a leading distributor in the Middle East and co-organiser of this prestigious event.
The L.U.C 1937 – Classic Rally Dubai is a 20-piece limited edition, of which two will be awarded to the rally winners.
Engine-style movement
The L.U.C 1937 Classic Rally Dubai is powered by a Calibre 01.01-M, which displays up to 60 hours of power reserve. Entirely made in the workshops of Fleurier Ebauches, this self-winding movement is adorned with engine-type finishes typical of Chopard collections relating to the Classic Racing universe.
The details are directly inspired by those found on racing car engines, while the visible bridges of this exceptional calibre are openworked and engraved with horizontal grooves evoking the cylinder heads of the finest V12 engines. This meticulous finishing is visible through a transparent sapphire case-back proudly bearing the rally logo.
Like all L.U.C watches equipped with a seconds hand, the L.U.C 1937 Classic Rally Dubai is chronometer-certified by the COSC, reflecting the determined wish of Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, a passionate horology enthusiast who attaches great importance to the independent certification of L.U.C watches’ chronometric precision. This resolutely noble approach to the art of watchmaking extends right the way through to the strap of this exceptional timepiece, crafted from hand-sewn black alligator leather with large square scales. And as a L.U.C watch will be admired from all angles, Chopard has also made the lining in chestnut brown alligator leather with small square scales.
