Spring/Summer 2019
The Monaco Yacht Show, recognised as the world leading superyacht event, will again welcome the international yachting world to the Principality of Monaco, offering a total immersion in the fascinating universe of luxury yachting, this September.
The 29th edition of the show will be held at the Port Hercules from September 25 to 28.
Every year, the Principality of Monaco is decked out in the MYS colours and lives to the frenzied rhythms of the events to which the social elite of yachting and their clients are invited. Private parties, cocktails, gala dinners, business meetings and press conferences are organised around the Monaco Yacht Show, along with the succession of superyacht visits.
“We work hand in hand with our exhibitors to offer the most prestigious superyachting event to the new generation of customers. We have a dual aim: offer our visitors an entertaining and instructive plunge into the world of superyachting while serving the industry. An order for a new yacht project benefits all the sectors of activity represented in the show. Our responsibility is to encourage encounters between final clients and the best players in the market, whatever the profile of the visitors or exhibitors may be,” explained Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of the MYS.
Now occupying almost the whole of Port Hercules and with a more varied range of items on display, the MYS has nevertheless become more homogeneous: the division of the layout into thematic zones made for more fluid movements around the quays and tents, allowing visitors to concentrate on their own sectors of interest.
This year, 125 superyachts will be on display and around 40 new launches are planned at the MYS. “Though we can’t name any yacht yet, we can confirm the fleet will be amazing: around 16 megayachts over 70m LOA (length overall) will be on display, amongst which 12 vessels will be over 80 m! A unique offering in the world!,” said Johan Pizzardini, Communications & Media Manager, MYS.
“We expect this 29th edition will break new records as we feel a very strong enthusiasm – more than ever – by the exhibitors to showcase their amazing superyachts or cutting-edge nautical and luxury products,” he said.
“Our role, as organisers, is to offer the most exceptional hub for discovering superyachting for a new generation of end-user clients coming from worldwide.”
Highlighting the new features of this year’s MYS, he said the Upper Deck Lounge – the show’s luxury exhibition and hospitality area where high-end visitors meet up – will be set on two floors this year: a lounge with a bar in the environment of the luxury partners on first floor, and on the second floor, the restaurant and VIP lounge with a mesmerising panoramic view on Port Hercules.
“The Upper Deck Lounge will definitely stand as the place to go for the show’s VIP clientele, future charterers or yacht owners for relishing the moment away from the bustling docks,” added Pizzardini.
Speaking on some of the key features of the show that make it the best, he said the selection of the superyachts and of the exhibitors is an important one. “A broker agency or a builder can’t exhibit the same yacht for two consecutive years. And this definitely levels up the top-notch quality of the show’s afloat exhibition. On stands, the exhibitors must already have proved their experience in the superyachting industry.
“The MYS has been evolving for this last decade. Today, the show has become a genuine rendezvous for the world’s social elite with the glamorous principality and its iconic Port Hercules in the backdrop: over 120 private events and cocktail receptions are organised in Monaco’s luxury hotels, on board the superyachts or in the exhibition tents during the show’s four days,” said Pizzardini.
The MYS2019 will have a reinforced presence of the Middle East with the participation of a major entity: the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism will attend the MYS with a 100 sq m exhibition area to promote its touristic destination.
Speaking on the new trends in the industry, Pizzardini said: “All in the industry have been seeing the arrival of a younger generation of end-user clients, either for charter or purchase, shaking the traditional industry with their new social codes and culture. They want to live heterogeneous yachting experiences, more connected to the sea and the environment; they want to have more fun on board and in-water, which is confirmed by the dramatic boom of tenders and water toys in the last years.”
MYS will also host the Monaco Yacht Summit, which explores the three routes to ownership, yacht management and chartering. “These routes have an infinite range of specific topics to share between our yachting experts on stage and the prospective charterers, future owners or their representatives for a first experience into superyachting. We’re currently discussing which topics to develop with our experts and more information will be available in August,” he said.
At MYS, there are so many reasons to meet industry peers and enter the fascinating world of superyachting if you’re new to the industry, he added.
The show will open to visitors in the late morning and extend its opening times into the early evening this year. With this, the organisers are seeking to offer schedules that correspond better to the visiting times preferred by private clients who can benefit fully – and with greater tranquility – from the social programme accompanying the show.
The MYS will thus be open to the public from 11 am to 7.30 pm (it will close at 7 pm on the Saturday), while exhibitors and the media will have access earlier in the morning.
Meanwhile, Monaco Yacht Show has announced Ulysse Nardin as the Official Sponsor of the show for the 2019 edition.
