Bulgari showed off an exquisite collection of high jewelry including two special creations at a celebrity-studded gala at St Moritz in Switzerland.
Held on Valentine’s Day, event included a cocktail reception at the Badrutt’s Palace, which was co-hosted by Princess Lilly zu Sayn Wittgenstein followed by a ‘gold rush’ themed dinner at the private residence of socialite Ester Velo van Hulst.
Guests were given the opportunity to admire 50 of Bulgari’s exquisite creations including the one-of-a-kind pieces: a pair of emerald earrings and a sapphire necklace.
The earrings feature four fancy-shaped stones weighing in at more than 140 carats. The cut of the earrings define the jeweller’s commitment to uphold the beauty of the stone above all other considerations. Light interacts with the intense colour of the stones to display the homogenous nature of their green, held in place only by the embrace of diamond claws.
The unique cushion cabochon-cut sapphire of the sapphire necklace weighs in at more than 180 carats, of a blue so deep it seems almost to be made of velvet. The magnificent centre sapphire dangles with 13 sapphire beads (113.47 carats), 55 emerald beads (278.50 carats), and diamond pavé (7.20 carats) in a clever concerto of shapes and polyhedral lines. Gems, shapes, colours, and carats are harmonised, for a hypnotic effect.
The necklace is dedicated to the woman who likes to play with the sound of her jewels – as one might do with the silky strings of an instrument, says Bulgari.
VIPs and celebrities at the event included Alexander Zu Schaumburg-Lippe, the highest-ranked prince in Germany, German actress and former model Nastassja Kinski, the van Hulsts, business tycoon Lakshmi Mittal and his family, the Prince d’Asburgo, Christian Voelkers, Jerzy and Anja Starak, Or and Raz Steinmetz, Daniele and Katja Bokun di Cetina, Bahrani Kumar and Lavender, Alfred and Elvira Oettker, Josè Antonio Sigurta Lucio e Luisa Bonaccorsi di Reburdone, Maurizio and Grace Borletti, Marta Brivio Sforza, Simona Ventura and Gerolamo Carraro, architect and designer Antonio Citterio with his wife Terry Citterio, Francesco Trapani and Princess Lorenza von Liechtenstein, Rafael and Astrid del Pino, Leonardo Ferragamo, Sven Ley of Escada, Massimiliano Maggi and Maria Sole Brivio Sforza, Raquel Marquard of the Swiss publishing family, Mondadori President Ernesto Mauri, the famous gallerist Thaddeus Ropac, Daniela Santanché and Alessandro Sallusti, Rebecca Carcelle Mitchell, Count Von Bismarck Carl Edward, Oliver and Dina Von Boch of Villeroy & Boch, and Matilde De Medici.
Bulgari was the first jeweller to open shop in St Moritz back in 1906 and the annual gala in the resort town was Bulgari’s second following the debut event last year.
