Polo players from both the UAE and abroad will be battling today and tomorrow at the 2015 edition of the Beach Polo Cup Dubai.
Taking place at Skydive Dubai, the last polo event of the UAE season will see polo players, enthusiasts, guests from abroad, the media and residents of the emirates, converge to watch this unique sport being played in an exhilarating backdrop of elegance and style, according to the organiser mamemo productions.
Now in its 11th year, the 2015 edition of the Beach Polo Cup Dubai (BPCD), is being held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman, Dubai Sports Council.
mamemo productions Managing and Creative Director Sam Katiela, who founded the event, says: “This year is a very special as the event is under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum and this means so much to us. His patronage is a confirmation that we can do these kind of events here in Dubai and that we have the infrastructure, technical skills, knowhow and most importantly, the will power to host such an extravagant sporting event that has gone global right here from Dubai.”
The event is being presented by US luxury car brand Cadillac while Swiss luxury watchmaker Longines is the arena sponsor and official timekeeper.
The team sponsors include Swiss private jet charter company VistaJet and Canadian plane maker Bombardier, Cadillac, Lint and Autism Rocks.
The teams are participating include returning and defending champions Team VistaJet and Bombardier, Team Cadillac (Middle East), Team Lindt and Team Autism Rocks.
Each team will have three players with this year’s tournament providing a mix of UAE and international players participating.
This year there are three players from the UAE: Saoud Khoory, who has been playing polo since the age of 14 and Tariq and Rashid Albwardy, sons of Ali Albwardy, one of the world’s biggest polo patrons and owner of the Desert Palm Polo Club.
Saoud is playing for Team Autism Rocks, Tariq will be playing for Team Cadillac (Middle East) and Rashid will play for returning and defending champions Team VistaJet and Bombardier.
On the international front players participating will be from Argentina, Switzerland and UK.
Beach Polo Cup Dubai was founded in 2004 by mamemo productions, an interactive media and live marketing company. Now in its 11th year, the Beach Polo Cup has grown to 32 cities globally.
