Team Cadillac was crowned the champion of the 2015 of Beach Polo Cup Dubai (BPCD) after defeating Team VistaJet and Bombardier in the final by 13 goals to 9 in a spectacular closing day at the Skydive stadium in Dubai, UAE.
Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, Dubai Sports Council, the final on Saturday was attended by Mattar Al-Tayer, Deputy Chairman, Dubai Sports Council, Saeed Hareb, Secretary General, Dubai Sports Council and mamemo productions Managing and Creative Director Sam Katiela, the event’s founder and organiser.
Team Cadillac’s Tariq Albwardy, Sam Instone and Matías Machado played a great final against last year's returning champions Team VistaJet and Bombardier (Rashid Albwardy, Jan Bladen and Martín Valent) who battled until the end in a thrilling match.
Team Cadillac had a great start taking a quick lead by 4-0 in the first chukka, with Machado on fire and Tarik and Instone’s great team work.
Team VistaJet and Bombardier reacted strongly in the third chukka and managed to close the gap in the score as a battling Martín Valent and Rashid Albwardy put them back in the game.
But in the last chukka, Machado’s talent reappeared to give Team Cadillac victory by 13-9 and the 2015 championship title.
Machado, an Argentinian professional player, was adjudged Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Earlier, Team Autism Rocks (Stuart Wrigley, Saoud Khoory and Maxi Malacalza) defeated Team Lindt (Piero Dillier, Uwe Zimmermann and Lucas Labat) in the semi-final by 8 goals to 7.
The two-day event was presented by US luxury car brand Cadillac while Swiss luxury watchmaker Longines was the arena sponsor and official timekeeper.
The team sponsors included Swiss private jet charter company VistaJet and Canadian plane maker Bombardier, Cadillac, Swiss chocolatier Lint and the UK charity Autism Rocks.
Beach Polo Cup Dubai was founded in 2004 by mamemo productions, an interactive media and live marketing company. Now in its 11th year, the Beach Polo Cup has grown to 32 cities globally.
