Autumn 2019
A fantastic fleet of 125 superyachts and megayachts were presented to a record number of visitors – 31,565 – at the Monaco Yacht Show 2019
The glitz and glamour mingled with some of the most fantastic beauties of the sea on the elegant shores of Port Hercules as the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) 2019 unfolded recently.
MYS, which represents the pinnacle of luxury, deserves all the superlatives that have been written or spoken about the show, while it also merits the months long wait of the marvelous vessels to be revealed.
Innovation, excellence, technology and sustainability were the oft-heard words at the show corridors as the rich and famous, daring designers, top naval architects, builders and brokers joined together for four days of the MYS.
A fleet of 125 superyachts and megayachts were presented to a record number of visitors – 31,565 – in the stunning backdrop of Monaco.
“In terms of tonnage, it’s the most impressive show, with a lot of big boats,” said Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of the Monaco Yacht Show, in an interview with Superyachtsnews.
“The yacht show is a matter of quality and the size doesn’t really count here in Monaco,” she added.
There were 14 yachts over 70 m in length – eight of them over 80 m; four over 90 m and two larger than 100 m – and the biggest yacht at the show was the 111-m-long TIS.
The other numbers too are mind-blogging. The show hosted superyachts worth €4 billion ($4.41 billion); there were 44 new launches; the average length of yachts was 49.5 m, and the average asking price €37.8 million.
About 600 exhibitors took part this year showcasing their products and services and the show witnessed about 100 private events too.
The yachts on display showcased the strength of the industry, while aiming to meet the demands of new-age buyers. As the industry strives for perfection, it's also moving forward in terms of technology, said experts.
There were many jaw-dropping moments for yachting enthusiasts and visitors as they toured the magnificent creations such as Feadship’s Syzygy 818; Abeking & Rasmussen’s Excellence; Lürssen’s TIS, Amadea and Flying Fox; SanLorenzo’s Attila; Oceanco’s DreAMBoat; and Amels’ Aurora Borealis, just to name a few. These and other superior yachts at the show clearly showcased what the superyacht industry could really achieve.
The 80-m Abeking & Rasmussen’s Excellence won the ‘Finest New Yacht’ award at the MYS 2019 Gala, symbolising the show’s pursuit of excellence. Lurssen’s TIS made a mark for its daring innovation in interior styling.
Discussions at the show focused on market trends, shifting demographics, revolutions in design, technology and the onboard experience. Sustainablity was also a major issue at the show with participants seriously engaged in topics related to the environment.
