Gulfstream’s flagship ultra-long range G650ER jet recently set two city-pair records while flying around the world in one stop.
The G650ER took off from White Plains in New York, US, with three passengers and four crew members on board.
It flew 6,939 nautical miles/12,851 km eastbound to Beijing, China, at an average speed of Mach 0.87 for a total flight time of 13 hours and 20 minutes.
The aircraft then flew eastbound 6,572 nm/12,171 km to Savannah in Georgia, US, accomplishing the mission at an average speed of Mach 0.89 for a total flight time of 12 hours.
The aircraft landed both times with fuel in excess of the National Business Aviation Association instrument flight rule (NBAA IFR) reserves.
“There isn’t another business jet capable of this mission,” says Scott Neal, senior vice president, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Gulfstream. “This flight proves just how powerful a machine the G650ER is. We promised customers an aircraft that could take them farther faster than any other; we delivered on that promise. The G650ER provides a combination of speed and range that is creating history and setting records.”
Pending approval by the US National Aeronautic Association, the city-pair records will be sent to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in Switzerland for recognition as world records.
In addition to the two pending records, the G650ER set two speed records during flight testing in 2014.
The aircraft flew from Los Angeles, US, to Melbourne, Australia, in 14 hours and 58 minutes.
The G650ER then flew from Hong Kong to Teterboro, New Jersey, US, in 14 hours and seven minutes.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, the G650ER once again demonstrated its ability to go the distance by completing the farthest flight in its history.
On January 22, a G650ER, owned by Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn Resorts, flew 8,010 nautical miles/14,835 km non-stop, travelling from Singapore’s Changi Airport to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, US, with four passengers, including Wynn, and three crew members on board. The trip took 14 hours and 32 minutes at an average speed of Mach 0.85, with tail winds of 76 knots. The G650ER landed with fuel in excess of the National Business Aviation Association instrument flight rules reserves.
“This flight demonstrates how powerful an aircraft the G650ER is,” says Larry Flynn, President, Gulfstream. “To be able to travel distances like this is remarkable and truly captures the essence of this aircraft. Its range and speed are just two of the many reasons for its success and will continue to be the driving forces behind the demand for this aircraft.”
“The G650ER is a game-changer. It’s a vital business tool that gives me peace of mind, thanks to its superior range, speed, cabin comfort and enhanced safety features,” says Wynn. “I fly around the world for my business, and this aircraft takes me there. Gulfstream continuously goes above and beyond; the proof is in the performance.”
Wynn was one of the first customers to receive a G650 when the aircraft entered service in 2012. He was also one of the first to upgrade to the extended range G650 when Gulfstream began offering the option last year. The aircraft has accumulated more than 1,115 flight hours and 545 landings.
The G650ER can travel 7,500 nm/13,890 km at Mach 0.85 and 6,400 nm/11,853 km at Mach 0.90. It has a maximum speed of Mach 0.925.
Current G650 owners and order-holders can upgrade their original G650 to a G650ER.
