Stansted-based charter and sub-charter specialist Titan Airways has begun to equip a selection of its fleet with an in-flight entertainment (IFE) streaming platform provided by Media inMotion (MiM), a UK-based provider of modular and wireless IFE solutions.
The news was revealed at the 2015 European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (Ebace), held in Geneva, Switzerland, last week.
Titan’s newest A320-200 (G-POWK) was equipped at the end of April, and installations are to continue with two additional A320-200 aircraft and two Boeing 757-200’s in the coming months.
The aircraft are used for both executive and commercial charters and leasing.
On each of the aircraft to be equipped with the MiM platform, passengers will enjoy digital content - ranging from Hollywood films and popular network series to current newspapers, magazines and music - streamed wirelessly from a lightweight onboard server to their smart phones, tablets and other wi-fi enabled personal electronic devices (PEDs).
Five wireless access points (WAPs) per aircraft will ensure steady connection without degradation of experience, no matter how many passengers choose to log on.
According to Titan Airway’s Assistant Director Alastair Willson, Media in Motion’s successful large-scale IFE deployment with Monarch Airlines demonstrated to him that the solution is reliable, robust, and supported by a truly dedicated team of experts.
“This solution just seemed to tick all the boxes for us. MiM are already working with another UK airline, so we were able to actually touch and feel the product. It has been tried and tested, which for us is really important. We had a lot of trust in this team to deliver on what they promised, and so far they have done just that,” commented Willson.
“We very much aim to be a premium service,” Willson continued, adding that Titan Airways always has an eye on the future. “All of our A320s are under 10 years of age and the 757’s are some of the youngest in the world. We believe that in a short time this type of digital IFE offering will become a necessity in this highly competitive business. We wanted something flexible and future-proof and we think we‘ve got that with the Media inMotion system.”
Martin Cunnison, CEO of Media inMotion, says that for now, the platform’s graphical user interface (GUI) has been configured to reflect Titan’s own branding; but that can be easily changed based on their charter customer’s own requirements.
“The partnership allows us to highly customise the passenger experience to suit the varied missions the aircraft are used for. At the touch of a button, crew can change the entire user interface and content line up to match the audience - whether the aircraft is flying in the easyJet or Jet2 colours or under private charter for Manchester United or Audi,” he explained.
“We are thrilled to be selected by Titan Airways to be their fully outsourced wireless IFE partner for the next 5 years.”
MiM also offers a lighter and completely portable wireless IFE solution that can be deployed in minutes, without supplemental type certification (STC).
A private UK-based provider of modular, wireless IFE solutions to commercial and executive aviation, MiM’s propriety DRM software is approved by most major Hollywood studios – for the ultimate selection of “must-have” content – while unique architectural framework enables a bespoke look and feel for each airline customer.
Headquartered at London Stansted airport in the UK, Titan Airways is a leading provider of private air charter and lease services to executive and commercial aviation. The carrier’s fleet comprises ten aircraft: 3 Boeing 737-300QC’s; 2 Boeing 757-200s; a Boeing 767-300ER; a Cessna Citation CJ2+ and 3 Airbus A320-200s. Several of the aircraft are QC (quick change), enabling utilisation for either passenger or freight transportation.
Titan Airways has a great deal of experience in the VIP charter market and its VIP client base includes royalty and heads of state, government delegations, senior business executives, world-renowned personalities from the music and film industries and international sports stars.
