Inspired by the design of the famous Palme d’Or trophy presented at the Cannes Film Festival, Chopard has launched a new jewellery line in ethically mined gold.
Stylish and fresh, refined and sustainable, the Palme Verte collection will become iconic in its own right, according to the Swiss watch and jewellery house.
Crafted in Fairmined 18-karat yellow gold, these “must-have” jewellery items are worn like talismans that one never takes off, says Chopard adding that they are “ethical jewels just for oneself, to be cherished whilst knowing that wonderful things are within reach”.
The new Fairmined Palme Verte diffusion line is part of Chopard’s “journey to sustainable luxury” launched in partnership with Eco-Age and its creative director Livia Firth.
With this collection, Chopard pays special tribute to the Palme d’Or, in its 60th anniversary year.
Awarded to the director of the best film at the festival since 1954, the Palme d’Or is a reference to the coat of arms of the city of Cannes in France.
In 1998, the President of the Cannes Film Festival mandated Chopard to redesign the Palme d’Or, allowing the house to lend its unique touch to the legendary trophy.
The trophy was entirely rethought by Chopard’s Artistic Director and Co-President Caroline Scheufele and the gifted hands of Chopard’s craftsmen thus gave rise to the new technical and stylistic interpretation of the Palme d’Or.
These two institutions, each symbolising the ultimate in glamour, thus crossed paths and have remained inseparable ever since that milestone year when Chopard first became official partner of the Cannes Film Festival.
In 2014, driven by her commitment to sustainable luxury, Caroline decided to make the Palme d’Or a new symbol of the values that are so dear to her heart. Since then, the trophy has been entirely made in Fairmined gold – a label thus guaranteeing that it is produced with due respect for social, environmental and ethical standards.
PALME VERTE COLLECTION
With the Palme d’Or celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, Chopard has been paying tribute to it through several creations, ranging from haute joaillerie to dainty, restrained jewellery lines.
The Palme Verte collection was inspired by the design of the Palme and is suited to daily wear, says Chopard.
The polished curves of this collection are directly inspired by this plant life, and especially by the finely ribbed leaves of the palm’s front. This remarkably smooth design radiates the beauty of self-evident simplicity.
Earrings, a pendant, a ring and a bracelet are part of this diffusion jewellery collection in ethical gold.
This ethical collection deploys its assets in a spirit that is light, resolutely modern, as well as eminently wearable, says Chopard.
Palme Verte jewellery lends a precious touch of refinement to a simple outfit, while in conjunction with a sophisticated look, it serves a reminder of the timeless beauty of great classics, it says.
These light, intimate items of jewellery are so pleasant to wear “that a woman will naturally wish to keep them on permanently in order both to enhance her appearance and to marry ethics with aesthetics”.
Chopard’s “journey to sustainable luxury” is a commitment to a multi-year programme to achieve sustainable luxury. The goal is to improve the environment and the lives of those at the very beginning of the supply chain.
Fairmined gold is ‘ethical gold’ extracted by artisanal and small-scale miners certified under the Fairmined standard created by the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM).
