Swiss manufacture Roger Dubuis will debut a limited edition high jewellery version of its Excalibur Double Tourbillon at the upcoming Watches&Wonders haute horlogerie exhibition in Hong Kong.
The event, which runs from September 30 to October 3 in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, will provide yet another exciting opportunity for the maison to display its latest creations centred around its ‘astral skeleton’ theme.
CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué says: “Building on its double status as the pioneer of contemporary skeleton calibre and a specialist in architectural and technical mechanics, Roger Dubuis is excited to be presenting its raft of new 2015 launches in Asia. It will also be premiering the Excalibur Star of Infinity – a model every bit as generous and dazzling as its name implies.”
Like several of this year’s releases, this latest jewellery timepiece to be exclusively unveiled at Watches&Wonders 2015 from Roger Dubuis reflects the astral skeleton principle.
The concept is based on the star-shaped design of Roger Dubuis contemporary skeleton movements, borrowed from nature and its heavenly constellations. In the Excalibur Star of Infinity, formal aesthetics meets functionality, since the tips of the RD01SQ skeleton double flying tourbillon ‘star’ point to several hour-markers and thus enhance clarity.
Even more significantly, they appear to stretch out towards the vast expanses of space… the infinity evoked in its name. This luminous interpretation glows with the fire of 312 baguette-cut diamonds totalling approximately 14.93 carats and adorning the full-pavé white gold case, the flange – as well as the star itself, which sparkles with 34 of these gems (0.96 carats).
The pristine radiance of the precious stones admirably complements the rhodium-plated charcoal grey of the calibre with its finely circular- grained plate and illuminates the twin Celtic cross-shaped tourbillon carriages.
This shining example of the two-fold jewellery and watchmaking expertise cultivated by Roger Dubuis bears the Poinçon de Genève certification and is fitted with a hand-stitched black alligator strap creating a striking contrast, secured by an adjustable folding buckle also glittering with 32 baguette- cut diamonds (1.33 carats).
The watch is reported to have an estimated price tag of $602,500, and only 28 pieces will be produced.
Meanwhile, Roger Dubuis’s booth at the event will be “a dreamlike fantasy world” powerfully evoking the manufacture’s theme of the year: skeleton-work and its multiple interpretations in nature, art and watchmaking.
Stepping into this area will instil a sense of entering an enchanted, legendary Arthurian forest subtly evoking the world of the Excalibur line, as well as discovering an extraordinary tentacular creature that looks as it has been released from its cage, it says.
Rubber meets metal, while curves and powerful lines meet the rounded fascination of an eye opening and shutting like a window onto the very soul of horology. Even the integrated display windows recall the circular shape of timepiece dials.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy the sensorial ‘3D Astral Skeleton Experience thanks to Oculus glasses.
Roger Dubuis has been at the forefront of contemporary haute horlogerie since 1995 and its collections - Excalibur, Hommage, Velvet, Pulsion and La Monégasque - are distributed worldwide through an exclusive sales network and boutiques.
