International luxury brand Montblanc celebrates the art of writing at Louvre Abu Dhabi’s new exhibition, ‘Abstraction and Calligraphy: Towards a Universal Language’, which opened on February 17.
As the official sponsor of the exhibition, the Maison pays tribute to the intricacies of calligraphy, an art form that is rooted in Montblanc’s origins, with a series of experiential activations for visitors to the Museum. The exhibition runs till June 12.
Promising an immersive insight into the art of writing and its pivotal role in shaping Montblanc’s identity, the calligraphy sessions will be hosted by a number of Master Calligraphers to guide participants through new calligraphy techniques and enabling them to create a written masterpiece for themselves.
Limited edition Montblanc items will also be available in the future at Louvre Abu Dhabi Boutique, including the newly launched Montblanc Inspire Writing coffee table book, devoted to the Maison’s writing heritage, and an exclusive Louvre Abu Dhabi Montblanc notebook.
Commenting on the exhibition, Franck Juhel, President of Montblanc Middle East, India and Africa, said: ‘We are delighted to be able to share Montblanc’s rich writing heritage with visitors to Louvre Abu Dhabi. Calligraphy is a centuries’ old art form that continues to be appreciated, treasured and practised to this day in many cultures around the world, and an integral part of Montblanc’s DNA for over 110 years. We hope visitors will draw inspiration from both the exhibition and the experience.’
On the collaboration with Montblanc, Manuel Rabaté, Director of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, remarked: "Throughout this show, we see the importance of the expressive nature of the sign, symbol, of calligraphy, the brush strokes of the artists who came to define abstraction. They are defined not just by the artist’s hand, but by the tool in use. We are thrilled and grateful to have the support of Montblanc, a Maison who has influenced the culture of writing around the world, in bringing this exhibition to life."
Louvre Abu Dhabi's 'Abstraction and Calligraphy: Towards a Universal Language’ exhibition explores the relationship between image and writing, and features loans from the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, among others.
