A high end timepiece from Swiss watchmaker Greubel Forsey won the top award at the 2105 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), the watch industry’s equivalent of the Oscars.

A total of 72 watches contended for an array of awards at the 2015 edition, which was held on October 29 at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in Geneva, Switzerland.

Presented jointly by French writer Frédéric Beigbeder and actor Gaspard Proust, the prize-giving ceremony was attended by Swiss Federal Councillor Alain Berset

The 1,500-strong audience included representatives from the international watchmaking community as well as from political and economic circles. It was also broadcast live to enthusiasts around the world.

Chaired by seasoned collector, auctioneer and watch expert Aurel Bacs, 26 personalities known for their watchmaking expertise made up the multidisciplinary, international GPHG 2015 jury joined this year by artists and musicians Dieter Meier (Yello) and Eric Singer (Kiss).

The jury granted the supreme distinction, the “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix, to Greubel Forsey for its Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision timepiece.

• Ladies’ High-Mech Watch Prize: Fabergé, Lady Compliquée Peacock.

• Men’s Watch Prize: Voutilainen, Voutilainen GMR.

• Chronograph Watch Prize: Piaget, Altiplano Chrono.

• Tourbillon Watch Prize: Ulysse Nardin, Ulysse Anchor Tourbillon.

• Calendar Watch Prize: Hermès, Slim d'Hermès QP.

• Striking Watch Prize: Girard-Perregaux, Minute Repeater Tourbillon with Gold Bridges.

• Mechanical Exception Watch Prize: Jaquet Droz, The Charming Bird.

• “Petite Aiguille” Prize: Habring2, Felix.

• Sports Watch Prize: Tudor, Pelagos.

• Jewellery Watch Prize: Audemars Piguet, Diamond Punk.

• Artistic Crafts Watch Prize: Blancpain, Villeret, cadran Shakudō,

• Revival Watch Prize: Piaget, Extremely Piaget Double Sided Cuff.

• Watch Innovation Watch Prize: Antoine Preziuso, Tourbillon of Tourbillons.

• “Horological Revelation” Prize: Laurent Ferrier, Galet Square.

• Special Jury Prize: Micke Pintus, Yannick Pintus, Jean-Luc Perrin. The three Vacheron Constantin watchmakers who developed the Reference 57260 watch.

• Public Prize (voting via the Internet and at the exhibitions): Antoine Preziuso, Tourbillon of Tourbillons.

Ahead of the event, the shortlisted watches were exhibited in Hong Kong, Seoul, Dubai, and Geneva. 

The prize-winning watches will be now presented in London at SalonQP from November 12 to 14.

Created in 2001 and overseen since 2011 by a foundation recognised as a public interest organisation, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève aims to highlight and annually reward the most remarkable creations in order to promote the watchmaking art around the world.
