Montblanc has crafted a new limited edition car key for BMW, which allows drivers to open the door of the car at a distance and start or stop the engine without ever having to find the right button to press.
With its pure lines and polished surfaces, the ultra-thin black rectangular key is nearly half the size of a standard car key and can be worn three different ways.
The base module can be attached to a leather strap crafted in the Maison’s Pelletteria in Florence, to be comfortably worn around the wrist. Additionally, the activity key can be added to a clip so it can be clipped onto clothing or luggage or alternatively be placed on a key ring.
“Working in partnership with BMW, Montblanc continues to explore new frontiers in wearable technology, finding creative ways to bring together its flair for cutting-edge design and passion for technological innovation,” says Jérôme Lambert, CEO Montblanc. “Seamless, smart and functional, the Activity Key is designed for on-the-go modern explorers, individuals who seek technology that complements their lifestyle in a meaningful way, while never compromising on style.”
This limited edition is the third collaboration between two luxury pioneers united by a passion for ground-breaking technological innovation and elegant design, following the creation of a collection of leather goods and writing instruments for the launch BMW 7 Series in 2015 and a Montblanc Centennial Fountain Pen released to commemorate the automobile manufacturer’s 100th anniversary in 2016.
For the launch of the new BMW 5 series the new Activity Key, measuring a mere 5 cm by 2 cm, is the smallest ID transmitter in the BMW portfolio and delivers a seamless experience to its user through the complete absence of buttons.
The key will be available this summer 2017 at BMW dealers.
