Stargems, a major supplier of fine diamond jewellery in the Middle East, has announced that it will donate 10 per cent of its retail revenue to Dubai Cares from June 1 to August 31.
This makes Stargems the first jewellery retailer to make a donation of this kind in the UAE, said a statement.
The international diamond company currently has four retail stores in the UAE, located at the Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Gold and Diamond Park.
The donation from Stargems, based on retail sales across all stores, will go directly towards Education Uninterrupted, a nationwide fundraising campaign that tackles the impact of Covid-19 on the education of children and youth in the UAE.
Dubai Cares and the UAE Ministry of Education have combined efforts to create this important campaign to support children from national and non-national low-income families who can’t afford to purchase a computer, laptop or tablet so that they can join their peers in distance learning from home.
Stargems specialises in the cutting and polishing of diamonds as well as jewellery manufacturing, branding and retail. The diamond industry experts export rough and polished diamonds as well as curated jewellery to a number of international markets, including countries across the Middle East, India, Hong Kong and Belgium.
Speaking about the importance of giving back and showing a sense of community, Shailesh Javeri, Chairman and Founder of Stargems Group, said: “It is our duty as a successful local company to give back to the community. Covid-19 has disrupted our traditional education system, with many having to adapt to new ways of studying such as e-learning, which may not be available to some students. This initiative, in association with Dubai Cares and the Ministry of Education allows us to ensure that those less fortunate are not missing out on such a vital part of life. Our customers can now make a difference with each purchase made.”
Dr Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Cares and Member of its Board of Directors, said: “We are very grateful to Stargems Jewellery DMCC, the generosity of this partnership will help us aid our Education Uninterrupted campaign. The contribution comes at a pivotal time when we are looking to the local community to support and help the fundamentals of our society. Education provides each child with the tools to have a perspective and understanding of life, it gives knowledge to our next generations and generations to come, a core part of our society and the future that should remain uninterrupted.”
With a legacy of over 38 years in the diamond industry, Stargems now holds prominence in manufacturing, wholesaling, retailing and tendering of diamonds.
